The Fall

Touch of Evil (1958) would close film noir, but paved the way for a new genre and style, like neo noir. Across so many sources, we see something along the lines of the statement “Film noir can be seen as both a screen style, and a perspective on human existence and society” from Film Noir and Contemporary America on an American History from Revolution to Reconstruction and Beyond page. The argumentative genre gave way to an interlude that was necessary to the expansiveness of the country. The influences of film noir are far and wide, an aspect that Cris talks about in later posts. What I think is also important to note is that even though a specific way of film noir being portrayed has ended, it is in no way dead or lacking. The amount of sources and information surrounding the classification of film is incredibly impressive. Take for example an anonymous website that is drowning in film noir - it even has noir poetry to look at, something I wouldn’t have thought existed. It just all goes to show that even though the movie style has evolved, it still can be found through writing, video games, TV series, etc.
